Types of Fireplaces - General
There are two common types of fireplaces:
A masonry wood-burning fireplace consists of a masonry firebox which is
often installed with a brick, stone or tile facing, and a masonry
chimney system. As the name suggests, these fireplaces are installed
by a mason, brick by brick, during the construction of a house.
Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens are made to install onto
masonry fireplaces.
A prefabricated or zero-clearance wood-burning fireplace is a factory
made version of a traditional masonry fireplace. Although it may have brick
lining on the inside of the firebox, the shell of a prefabricated
fireplace is metal. The chimney system for a prefabricated fireplace
is usually made of metal chimney pipe. Some prefabricated fireplaces
have vents or louvers on the front face and opening.
Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens are not manufactured to fit
on prefabricated fireboxes.

Glass Door Fire Screens - Glossary of Terms

Glass Door Fire Screen Installations:
Overlap design - This type of glass door fire screen is made to
install on the outside of the fireplace opening, overlapping the
material around the firebox opening. The Pleasant Hearth glass door
fire screens are overlap design doors.
Inside fit - This type of glass door fire screen installs on the
inside of your fireplace, even or flush with the opening.
These Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens are not designed to
fit inside the fireplace opening.

Door Styles
Cabinet style door - This a two-panel door hinged on either side
that opens from the middle. Each door has a full range of motion up to 180°.
Bi-fold style door - This is a four-panel door. Each two-panel section is hinged on the side and opens from the middle.
Pleasant Hearth bi-fold doors are trackless; each center panel folds
back on to the outside panel and is magnetically fastened.
The outside panels can then be opened to a full 180°.

Tempered Glass
Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens use 3/16" tempered glass.
The tempering process increases the strength of the glass five to ten
times that of untempered glass, and increases the ability of the
glass to withstand the high temperatures associated with a fireplace.
Tempered glass can withstand temperatures between 400 - 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mesh Panels
Each Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screen comes with cabinet style
interior mesh panels. These panels close magnetically inside the glass doors.
When the glass doors are open and a fire is burning, the mesh panels prevent
sparks from exiting the firebox. The panels also serve as a safety barrier
to prevent anything from entering the fireplace. Pleasant Hearth uses either
standard or premium woven mesh in the glass door fire screens.

Fiberglass Insulation
Each glass door fire screen comes with heat-resistant fiberglass insulation
strips. When the frame is installed against the outside of the fireplace
opening, the insulation creates an air-tight fit which prevents heating
and air conditioning loss through the fireplace opening and chimney.
In addition, the fiberglass insulation absorbs some of the direct heat
from the fire and so protects the finish of the glass door frame.

Powder-Coated Finish
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and
protective finish. The powder used for the process is a mixture of
finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a
surface to be coated.
The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces
until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result
is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish. Powder coated
surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing
than other finishes.

Riser Bar
All Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens include a 2" riser bar.
This riser bar can be installed on the bottom of the fire screen to
allow the unit to reach its maximum height coverage.

SIZING
How do I choose the right size fire screen for my fireplace?
Measure accurately for the right fit
- measure the front inside opening width - from side-to-side, inside brick to inside brick across the width of the opening
- measure the front inside opening height - from the top to the floor of the hearth
- use chart below to determine the correct fire screen size (round measurements to the closest 1/8")

What if my fireplace opening does not fall within the size range?
If a fireplace opening does not fall within the size chart measurements for the small, medium, or large fire screen, no further size adjustments can be made. This fire screen will not work on your fireplace.
Are there other sizes than small/medium/large available?
There are no other sizes available. The Pleasant Hearth fire screen doors are sized to fit about 90% of masonry fireplaces. If your opening does not fall within the measurements on the chart, the screen will not fit properly.

INSTALLING
How do I install my glass door fire screen?
Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens surface mount with the frame overlapping the perimeter of the fireplace opening. The included lintel bracket screws onto the existing lintel and is adjustable for a snug fit. The bottom of the frame pressure-fits against the bottom inside of the firebox using the hardware provided. This is a quick, easy, one-tool installation. What is a lintel bar?
The lintel bar is the horizontal structural steel spanning the top inside of the firebox which supports the brick immediately above it. It is generally made from metal angle iron. The Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screen attaches to this lintel bar.

How does my glass door fire screen save energy?
Even with the flue closed, your fireplace leaks air up the chimney. The insulation around the glass door fire screen provides a tight fit so that there is a physical barrier which eliminates 90% of the leakage of warm or air conditioned air through the chimney.
Is my glass door fire screen adjustable?
These glass door fire screens are one-piece solid frame construction; these frames do NOT adjust.
Why does my glass door fire screen need to be open when burning a fire?
These glass door fire screens are primarily designed to help prevent heat/air conditioning loss up the chimney while the fireplace is not in use. They are also used to add a decorative, finished look to your masonry fireplace opening.
The doors use 3/16" tempered safety glass. This tempered safety glass is designed to withstand temperatures between 400 - 600 degrees Fahrenheit. Although this type of glass is the industry standard, we cannot control the size and intensity of the fire in your fireplace. The heat of a large, intense fire close to the glass door fire screen can result in the glass becoming brittle and breaking. We therefore strongly recommend that the doors be in the open position when burning a fire.
When I am finished using my fireplace, can I close the doors?
As long as there is no open flame, you can close the glass doors when you are finished using the fireplace. The damper must remain open to allow heat and smoke from any embers to escape.
What is the warranty on my glass door fire screen?
These Pleasant Hearth glass door fire screens carry full one-year warranty, excluding any improper use or alteration of the product.
